If there was a referendum in UK, I doubt if a majority would support UK

Precisely why there has never been a referendum?

Sure there was- 1975, and it got 67% support.

I mean ... apart from that one looks innocent

Odd that isn't it.

i never seem to hear a good word about the EU and there now seems to
be more disgruntalment about pushing constitutional stuff through the
back door.
It struck me for the first time in Shetland that all the scandanavians
and the UK have crosses on thier flags while all the countries to the
south and west have tricolours, ive yet to get get drunk enough to
decide what it proves.

As I've said, this is something people _love_ to moan and bitch
about, but membership of the EU would be seen as a necessary reality for
most people, despite what they might say.

i think so. Unless they did the referendum the day after admitting
Turkey!

Why? Almost 50% of the UK support admitting Turkey- next to Hungary the
highest support of any EU country.

yeah but how many know that Turkey charge UK citizens a higher visa feel than
other citizens of the EU? :-) They even have a separate queue for Brits at
immigration.

The latter is a plus surely? One disincentive for my partner to take UK
citizenship (he's eligible in a few months) is a) the cost, b) the
_stupid_ citizenship test and c) having to wait longer in immigration
when he enters the UK on nearly all flights.
