Forget about rock paintings. You will scramble through the bush only to see
a few daubs of old mud on a rock.
In terms of other Aboriginal culture, there is none excpet that which is
explicitly laid on for tourists, and the only places you will see
Aboriginies will (almost certainly) be at tourist venues.

However, the scrambling through the bush to find the rock paintings can be
very interesting/beautiful - though possibly not for 3 and a 7.

I thought Alan's suggestions were excellent. It really depends a lot on your
kids temperment. A lot of great things to do in Sydney and NSW involve
walking around outside, if your kids won't do that, your options are very
constrained. It will of course be middle of winter, and inland will be cold,
and the beaches to cold to swim at.

Also Alan's suggestion of staying at the cabins in caravan parks is
excellent. Many smaller NSW country towns still have caravan parks right on
the water, with on-site cabins to sleep you and the kids separately with
shower and toilet and kitchen facilities - you should be able have your pick
for $70 (30 pounds) a night in August. Much better and cheaper than a motel,
partticularly with a 3 and 7.

OK, let me try again. By 'real' culture, I mean rock paintings etc. If
I was in the UK I would be looking for stone circles, iron age burial
mounds, that sort of thing. I appreciate that I would not find a 'real'
celtic settlement!!

But thanks for the comments.
