Taking a cruise is not sailing! Those that sail are quite snob
about it and look down on the couch potatoes on the cruises.

Taking a cruise is standard with the petite bourgeoisie.
Personally I have always sailed in the Caribbean, from
Granada to the BVI.

I have a little sailboat in Newfoudland. see
http://web.me.com/whetzner/Hetzner/page_7.html
I don't look down on anybody, Earl.

Then get a bigger damn sailboat, Werny.

Actually Earl and I have taken a couple of non-sailboat cruises in the
Mediterranean. One of them was memorable. The first night out, the weather
turned rough, crockery ended up all over the floor, over half the passengers
left the dinner table in haste. One rather stuffy man ended up with the
contents of the wine bottles all over his three-piece gray suit.

lol

Take the good with the bad. We have captained and been captained on a
couple of sails, they are a completely different experience than
cruising. Each to his own or better yet, each to be so firtunate to
have cruised and sailed.

I remember my first cruise. The ship hit bad weather and a lot
Rosenthal china broke. Which line are you on? And have a good cruise.

We disembarked this morning and I am posting this from a Hampton Inn
in Valdosta Georgia on our way back driving to our mountain house in
North Georgia.

We were on Royal Caribbean Freedom of the Seas calling in the Bahamas,
St Martin, St Thomas, 12/5/2010 to 12/12/2010 out of Port
Canaveral. First time on a large luxury cruise liner for my wife and
myself solely because we wanted to spend time with a son. daughter in
law, and two of our teen age granddaughters. They had booked this
cruise after cruising the same ship to the Western Caribbean during
Easter break 2010

Wife and I cruised Alaska some years ago with a couple who were our
best friends, both now deceased. We sailed Seattle to Juneau on a
smaller ship with 100 or so passengers which was excellent in being
able able to get into the narrower channels to view wildlife up
there.

Wife kids and I have taken many day sails out of Charlotte Amalie St
Thomas VI over the years while renting an apartment and later a larger
villa there over school holidays as our kds had been growing up during
those years. My wife does not like to get tossed around or exposed to
the elements for an extended period so I never could talk her into
roughing it for the overnight charters available there.

Wife and I have been to Nassau, Bahamas numbers of times.over the
years. As a matter of fact one of our sons was conceived there in the
old British Colonial back in February 1963. This cruise was scheduled
to stop and spend a day in Coco Cay, Bahamas which is owned by Royal
Caribbean but it was aborted because the seas were determined to be
too rough for the ship tenders to get the passengers from the ship to
the island..

I had really approached this luxury cruise with some skepticism but
was pleasantly surprised how enjoyable it was despite much of the
fluff available that I didn't need but the kid's enjoyed.

The food was superb and the service impeccable. Wife and I had
breakfast. lunch and dinner in the formal dining room every day while
the kids chose one of the many informal dining options available every
day but joined us every night for dinner in the formal dining room at
our same assigned table for six with the same efficient wait staff.
Breakfast and lunch was open seating and wife and I were directed by
dining room staff to join tables with people we never knew before. As
a result we met some very nice, interesting people from all over the
world. Other than complaints about the high seas yesterday which the
cruise line had no control over. we did not hear single complaint
about the cruise and all of the comment on the ship throughout the
cruise were all positive. We did not hear a single complaint about
anything throughout the cruise ,remarkable since there were several
thousands of passengers on board.

Since the dining was so excellent we ate more than we were accustomed
to. I speed walked a mile on a track with double tracks to
accommodate both walkers and joggers every morning on the top outside
deck of 12 decks. My wife also worked out every morning on a treadmill
in the fully equipped huge fitness center. Despite maintaining my
usual exercise routine, I must admit I had to Inhale a bit to fastened
the buttons and clip around the waist of my tuxedo pants to prepare
for the the two formal dinner nights. However, my tuxedo was purchased
13 years ago and the 34 inch waist has never been altered. I may post
some pictures.

As a result of this most enjoyable cruise with Royal Caribbean my wife
and I are considering the possibilities in the many exotic
destinations for a future cruise with them since they operate all over
the world
