Weather In Australia and NZ
My sister and I are planning on taking a tour in Australia and NZ.
Question 1: What month would be best to plan (Melbourne, Phillip Island; Sydney and Cairns) Question 2: I am looking at Collette tours; please give recommendations for a good 2 week tour if you have experienced one; we are interested (of course) in a good deal Thanks |

Weather In Australia and NZ
MUCH wetter in NZ, depending on the year. We were there last year (2002)
for two months - October & November. It WAS beautiful and we did have some nice days, but the weather was crazy. We even had a full-on hail storm (that lasted a good part of the day) in Christchurch! However, if you don't mind a little weather, I'd definitely do it then anyway. The crowds ARE much less. If you can manage to hit NZ on the latter half of your trip (if you go in spring) or early half (if you go in autumn), I think you'll be fine. Sydney doesn't get as cold in winter so you can extend your travel into winter - again if you are planning a busy trip I'd avoid January-Feb on the grounds of heat, crowds & costs. For Cairns you are better to avoid the entire summer "wet season" - Jan-April so if you want to do both the South & North perhaps spring is best. Now what about NZ? You mention that in the header. Spring can be a beautiful time in NZ - esp the South Is as there is still plenty of snow on the mountains & the man-made landscapes are at their best too. However it can be wetter than other seasons, esp in the NI. Vicki |
