Jakarta: to change money at airport?
Hi,
I will reach West Papua and I think in Jayapura I will have a bad change rate. Before departing to jayapura I will make a stop at Jakarta airport for 8 hours. I think as in all the world the Airport is the worst place to exchange money. Is there one bank or a money changer shops very close to airport? thanks bye Jones |

Is there one bank or a money changer shops very close to airport? thanks bye Jones Money changers at the airport are not as good as those in town. I find local banks, such as BNI and BII, give the best rates. I dont know if they have branches in the airport, you may be able to check on their websites. There are several ATMs in the baggage hall just after immigration. I think there is a Citibank ATM there; their ATMs in town give up to 3million rp., maybe the airport one does too. If not you have time to check out the banks and money changers at the airport There are some bank desks I think outside the Customs area, but I think you have to go upstairs to the Departures area Here are todays rates at BNI as a guideline Bid Offer USD 9330 9410 JPY 8436 8536 SGD 5414 5484 EUR 11165 11265 GBP 17021 17121 You can check latest rates when you leave at http://www.bni.co.id/english/index.html There are no alternatives near the airport, it is not in town. You could get a taxi into town and back easily in you 8 hours. A Silverbird taxi (much nicer that the regular ones) would cost about 150,000 or so round trip. Usually 45-60 min each way, more in the rush hour. You could also get a much better meal in town than at the airport. I have not been to Jayapura but because of the huge Freeport mine (one of the biggest in the world) a lot of foreigners pass through there and I would think you may still get an OK rate at a good bank there. |
