Amiens : One day trip from Paris
At one hour and half from gare du NORD
http://www.amiens.fr/decouvrir/tourisme/home.htm One of the best gothic cathedrals, St Leu middle age district http://www.amiens.fr/decouvrir/tourisme/map/index.htm boating on the hortillonages http://www.amiens.fr/decouvrir/touri...llonnages.html There are 300 hectares (741 acres) of gardens in the heart of Amiens. They are criss-crossed by 55 kilometers of « rieux » (little channels) which can only be reached by boat, or by foot, from the towpath. The «Hortillonnages» are former marshes, originally made up of ditches and of 13 branches of the river Somme. The Romans called this land "hortus" (gardens). They were the first to drain the marshes, and then to cultivate market garden produce in order to feed their troops. Farming progressively developed in the area and market gardening in Amiens was in full boom in the 19th century. The farmers also used the «Hortillonnages» to extract peat which, once dried, was used as fuel. PARIS NORD départ 08h19 (1) TER 09h13 (2) AUTRE 10h07(3) AMIENS arrivée 09h56 10h34 11h12 Durée de votre voyage : 01h37 01h21 01h05 |
