Western Caribbean Maya Ruins Help?
Just got back from a cruise on Celebrity Century. We visited Tulum on
Feb. 1. It is the only Mayan ruin I have seen, but I was impressed. We had anchored off Cozumel and a Mexico ferry (550-passenger jet boat - comfortable, smooth ride) took us directly from the ship to Playa del Carmen. It is about a 45 minute bus ride (a little less if they would skip the shopping rip-off joint halfway there) from Playa del Carmen. Good road. The tour guide (Armando) was very informative, but I was a little surprised about how little information is provided by way of signs. If you want to see some pictures, this link should take your the http://www.kodakgallery.com/Slidesho... y=4t3rq6&Ux=0. If you have trouble, send me your e-mail address and I will send you an invitation so that you can access the pix. You can also check out my travelogue at http://dayoff53.blogspot.com/ and some of the pix at http://dayphotos.blogspot.com/. Have fun! |

Western Caribbean Maya Ruins Help?
Just get off in Cozumel, rent a jeep (do not pay for the excursion on board)
go out the mid island road about 6 kilo to the east and on the left is San Gervaiso ruins. Its all you ever need to see and its very close. You will spend about 2 hours there, see it all, and have the rest of the day to use the jeep and see the other side of the island. Just did it last week and it was fine. My 12year old daughter is delivering a power point presentation to her 7th grade class on the Mayan culture and ruins based on the digital pictures she took at San Gervaiso. Tulum is more spectacular but it is an all day excursion and lots more expensive. Good luck. Bobby Mims "dayoff53" wrote in message oups.com... Just got back from a cruise on Celebrity Century. Also you can rent a jeep from Executive Jeep rental on the tender boat going
on shore at Cozumel. They are very nice jeeps and will cost about $90 per day including insurance which you need to buy! Also there is a Pemex station on the way to the ruins but do not fill the jeep up because there is no way to use a full tank on Cozumel in one day! Bobby Mims "Dale M" wrote in message ... Western Caribbean Maya Ruins Help?
Just got back from a cruise to Costa Maya, and we loved visiting Chacchoben
ruins. The excursion runs about 4 to 4 1/2 hours, so you have plenty of time when you get back to the port town to do a little shopping or take a dip in either of the two public pools. It is about a 50 minute ride to the ruins (plus a 10 to 20 minute bathroom/shopping break at a roadside stand) on a very comfortable bus. Plus, at Chaccoben, you can walk at least partway up on several of the buildings, so it is a little more "hands-on." The tour guide was very informative as well. Hope this helps, Harry "Dale M" wrote in message ... Sailing the Legend of the Seas March 4th, and the wife and I have these Maya Ruin options to look forward too.
