Not at all. I've previously recommended the Murray Hill area, which is
quiet enough but close to everything. Very roughly speaking, it's
between 20th and 35th Streets, around Park Avenue and a block or two east
or west. There seem to be plenty of hotels in your price range there, and
I've always enjoyed staying there.

The Upper West Side is a bit livelier, but I'm not so familiar with the
hotels around there.

I stayed in the Excelsior (UWS) last summer and liked it very much;
it's across the street from the north side of the Museum of Nat'l
History.

Depending upon what time of year you are discussing, I've had
several folks, and myself, do quite well at right around $100
through priceline. Just be sure you understand what you're doing
before you bid.
