Following up to Martin :
What is a bad thing is that most criticism is based on criticising the EU for internal UK problems that are not caused by the EU. Before UK joined the EU problems were blamed on the war and ??? I think you've seen this before Martin, but others may not have...: http://ec.europa.eu/unitedkingdom/pr...s/index_en.htm -- Tim C. |

yeah but how many know that Turkey charge UK citizens a higher visa feel than
other citizens of the EU? :-) I think visa fees are reciprocal, probably this is a reaction to what the UK charges Turks for visas. The prices for Turkish visas vary wildly by nationality and follow no logic I could see - last time I looked at the board at an airport, the charges for Canada, Ukraine and Brazil were way more expensive than anywhere else. The other way they might have got to that figure is by charging one handy-sized banknote - ten pounds, ten euros, what's the diff. I've only encountered that system of payment at one other place, a roadside toilet in Bulgaria that charged three of *any* currency unit you had on you. (In value for money, it ought to have been hyperinflation-era Weimar Deutschmarks). They even have a separate queue for Brits at immigration. Not at any airport or crossing point I've been at. I suppose it might make sense to do that at a terminal which mainly handles British charter flights. ============== j-c ====== @ ====== purr . demon . co . uk ============== Jack Campin: 11 Third St, Newtongrange EH22 4PU, Scotland | tel 0131 660 4760 http://www.purr.demon.co.uk/jack/ for CD-ROMs and free | fax 0870 0554 975 stuff: Scottish music, food intolerance, & Mac logic fonts | mob 07800 739 557 |

Even according to German law (section 176 StGB) sexual acts on children of
less than 14 years would be a criminal offense, but in Germany the boy would not have been put into custody. One way out would have been to say "she claimed she was 15 and looked like 15". I do not think this will endanger Turkey's EU ambitions, but many hotel-keepers might like to give the boy and the girl a decent spanking, not to mention the judge who put the boy behind bars. Any families with not-so-young children who look for a different place to go on holiday? |

mangled uncounted electrons thus: snip Let's be brutally honest here. France and Germany don't want Turkey in the EC, mainly because a Muslim state would scupper the idea of a 'United States of Europe' forever. The UK does, mainly because a Muslim state would scupper the idea of a 'United States of Europe' forever... Aha!
