"Rochester ferry stranded by debt

DEBRA BLACK
STAFF REPORTER

The Rochester-Toronto ferry will no longer be crossing the waters of
Lake Ontario - at least not for a while.

The high-speed service, which operated twice daily between the two
cities, is shutting down its operations today without any plans in
place for resuming service, leaving passengers and city officials on
both sides of the border wondering what went wrong.

Not enough passengers. High operation cost. There is no need to wonder.

Actually, I believe they had enough passengers. The problems were in
Government bureaucracy on both sides of the border. The US would not
allow transport trucks through, $20,000/day lost in revenue and
Canada charged for Custom services. And the Canadian side did not
have proper buildings and facilities.
