Default Las Vegas in November

We are two couples planning to spend about 6 days in Las Vegas in the
beginning of November. One couple is newly pregnant and this is their last
hurrah. The other couple is early 50's and very active. None of us is
particularly interested in big time gambling. We are looking for
entertainment, great pool area, activities. The guys want to visit the
Luxor to view the Egyptian artifacts. We won't be doing alot of drinking
(in deference to afore mentioned pregnant friend) and are not late night
people.
Any and all suggestions are really appreciated.
Thanks
Momma (soon to be Nana)

in Las Vegas in the beginning of November...

We are looking for entertainment...

There are several web sites which discuss all the various shows
available. You might try a Google search, or try the Vegas
newsgroup alt.vacation.las-vegas for advice. Make your plans
and reservations in advance.

great pool area

In November the average daily high in Vegas is 69 F and the
average low is just 35. So it'll probably be too cool for outdoor
pool activities unless you stay at a hotel that has a heated pool
(Caesar's Palace, for example). The site CheapoVegas.com
has a section that discusses pools and mentions several which
are heated.

activities [not interested in gambling or drinking]

Visiting the various casinos on the strip is a lot of fun. Some of the
ones I enjoy most (I'm in my 40s) are The Bellagio, Venetian, Paris,
and Luxor. The outdoor show at Treasure Island is fun (but get there
early or you won't be able to see). If you're there 6 days, you'll have
plenty of time to visit *all* the major casinos/hotels if you want to.

Since one member of your group is pregnant, be aware that there's
a *lot* of walking involved as the casinos are huge and are spread
out over a considerable distance. So pace yourselves.

In addition to the strip, there's the Freemont Street area
downtown where you'll find the older casinos. Some people really
enjoy this area, others don't, but it's worth a visit.

Lots of great restaurants and buffets. The Bellagio, Paris, and Alladin
are generally considered to have some of the best buffets, although
they aren't cheap. CheapoVegas.com is a good source of info.

If you're into shopping, many of the casinos have nice shopping
arcades. The ones at Caesar's Palace and The Bellagio are especially
nice.

If anyone is a Star Trek fan, there's the Star Trek Experience
at the Hilton startrekexp.com.

The Imperial Palace hotel/casino has an huge car collection
that includes historical cars, cars owned by celebrities, etc.,
and I'd highly recommend it if any in your group are interested
in cars. autocollections.com

If you've got a rental car, visit Hoover Dam (I know a dam sounds
boring, but it's actually quite interesting), and there are some
great parks such as Red Rock and Valley of Fire. (Of the 2, I
prefer Valley of Fire). A quick trip to the Grand Canyon (about
5 hours each way) would also be a possibility. Some folks do it as
a day trip, but an overnight stay would obviously be preferable.

If you are going to visit the Luxor, get tickets to see "Blue Men Group"
there. About $75/ticket but worth it. There an afternoon magic show at the
Tropicana (Rick Thomas?) that's quite good and much cheaper ($15?). There'a
a tram that goes to Luxor.

Well I see Vegas is perfect for you. You don't gamble, no late nights, and
won't be drinking a lot. Yeah.

How about taking in some shows? My sister in law loves the Celene Dion
show. Also rent a car for a couple of days to go exploring outside.

Check out the alt.vacation.las-vegas newsgroup.

Also, check out http://www.cheapovegas.com for lots of info.

You didn't actually ask any questions, so that's the best info I
can provide about Las Vegas at this time.
