Default agriturismo in Italy

Can one trust that any of the the farm holidays appearing on
http://www.agriturismoitaly.it/english/ are OK, in the sense of at least
providing clean rooms and decent accommodation? We're not looking for
luxury accomodation...

Carl,
I can't say anything about that site and its offering, but there's an
interesting and similar thread in it.hobby.viaggi. You can post your
question there.
Anyway have a look at http://www.ilportaledelcavallo.it/ilcapannone/
http://www.agriturismo.pg.it/agritur...yfarm-letorri/
http://www.relais.it/ristorante/ (this one is in the luxury category , but
it worths the money you pay)
All of these are in Tuscany.

Last tip: if you want to find accomodations in Italy and you want to start
from official and trusted sites, try www.regione.XXXXX.it or
www.comune.YYYYYY.it . You have to put a name of an Italian region (toscana,
umbria, liguria, ...) in the XXXX or comune (firenze, roma, ...I don't know
the English name for "comune" ) in the YYYYYYY. Then look in the tourism
and/or culture section.

Have a nice stay in Italy,
- francesco

I don't think anyone can assure you about the standards of any
particular agriturismo. I know some agriturismo facilities in my area
(most of whom only offer meals or camping) and they are run by people
who take their responsibilities quite seriously. I have also seen some
in other areas that seemed to be very well kept up. However, I can't
guarantee that all are equally reliable.

I just went to the site and was apalled to note that they didn't include
Villa Cilnia among the sites in Tuscany. I can only assume that the
places listed on the web site have paid to be included. That's not to
say that any of those listed is bad, but I certainly can't calibrate the
ones that are there because Villa Cilnia is my point of comparison.

In '02, I stayed at Villa Cilnia outside Arezzo and recommend it highly.
The rooms are spacious, well-appointed, and immaculately clean. (In
general, if you insist on air conditioned rooms, agriturismo is not for
you! The rooms at Villa Cilnia are not air-conditioned -- although one
of the rooms had a sort of portable air conditioner that I'm told is
called a "penguin.") The swimming pool is sited to offer a gorgeous view
of the vineyards and distant mountains and uses a continuous cleaning
system that produces the cleanest swimming pool I've ever enjoyed.

I think dinners can be arranged, but the general arrangement is
breakfast only. And what a breakfast! Orietta's divine jams from the
fruit grown on the premises, her heavenly coffee cakes, an assortment of
meats and cheeses, juices, and hot beverages make for a stellar meal in
a charming room.

The one idiosyncracy is that the owners, Orietta and her husband, Luigi,
work the vineyard but do not live on the premises. That means that
overnight, there is no one at the Villa to deal with problems in the
unlikely event that they arise. (I suspect we had a phone number if we
absolutely needed to contact anyone. I simply don't remember.) Orietta
and Luigi hand each guest a key to the front gate to use when coming
back in the late evening. We did not find this a problem; by the end of
our stay it felt as if we were returning to our own property in Tuscany.

Here's the web site: www.villacilnia.com

I think the best thing you can do is to search for official web sites
of agriturismo, b&b, ecc..
Here is one, in my region (Marche):
http://www.locandalelogge.it
My friend Andrea owns it: it's very nice.

Bye Bye from Marche

Luis
