Cozumel Welcomes Cruisers with a Festival!
Hi Everyone,
I received this press release from The Mexico Tourism Board and thought it would be of interest. If you have missed any of my news' postings, they are available on my web site. Best regards, Ray LIGHTHOUSE TRAVEL 800-719-9917 or 805-566-3905 http://www.lighthousetravel.com COZUMEL’S PORT REOPENS NOV. 14 Mexico’s top cruise destination welcomes cruise ships post-Wilma COZUMEL, November 14, 2005 – Cozumel will reopen its port on Nov. 14, celebrating the arrival of its first cruise ships after Wilma with a week-long festival. Cozumel is Mexico’s, and the western Caribbean’s, top cruise port. A total of 12 passenger cruise ships will dock in Cozumel’s port this week, starting with the Carnival Triumph and the Celebrity Galaxy on Monday, Nov. 14. Cozumel will continue to share its warmth and hospitality with the thousands of tourists arriving on four Royal Caribbean International ships. Carnival Cruise Line, Celebrity Cruises, and Princess Cruises will each send two ships to Cozumel during the first week. A Norwegian Cruise Line ship will arrive Wednesday, Nov. 16. Cozumel will welcome its guests with the Festival del Mar Caribe, or Caribbean Sea Festival, a week-long fiesta featuring cultural music, dance performances, local artisans, roving mariachi bands and street vendors. Cruise passengers will also receive a personal welcome letter from Cozumel mayor Gustavo Ortega. Cozumel’s port reopening is part of a development plan involving public and private sector collaboration designed to bring the island’s urban and ecological areas back to their former luster, said Mexico Tourism Secretariat Rodolfo Elizondo. With 24 ports, Mexico is the number one cruise destination in the world. The nearby cruise ports of Progreso in Yucatan State and Costa Maya in Quintana Roo State were unaffected by the passage of Wilma. About the Mexico Tourism Board The Mexico Tourism Board (MTB) brings together the resources of federal and state governments, municipalities and private companies to promote Mexico's tourism attractions and destinations internationally. Created in 1999, the MTB is Mexico’s tourism promotion agency, and its participants include members of both the private and public sectors. The MTB has offices throughout North America, Europe, Japan and Latin America. |
