Default Visiting Crater of the Moon Monument in Idaho in winter

Hello,

I am planning a trip to Yellowstone/Grand Teton and am interested in
a side trip to Crater of the Moon National Monument. Does anyone know
if the lava landscape is visible in winter? I know the rim drive is
closed for cars but open for skis. If I just want to snowshoe around
the monument, will I see any of the lava bed formations? Or should I
visit the monument in summer instead?

Thanks,
Baxter

Summer would be much better since no one knows how much snow may be on the
ground in winter. Usually a lot. KM

Thanks! So the landscape will not be distinct enough with the snow?
I've never been to the place before so I don't know how big/tall those
lava stuff are.
