Default Going SOLO...Voyager OTS 5/30

Well I just found out today that my cruise mate needed to 'bail out' for
our 5/30 Eastern Canada cruise. Parent has fallen ill and he can't
commit to travel at this time. However I am STILL GOING! Any other
solo's out here going on this sailing? Any input/advice from others that
have done cruises alone on how to make the most of the cruise being
alone?

I just did my first solo cruise in March and loved every minute of it.
Remember, you might be boarding the ship alone, but you aren't
cruising alone - there are 2000+ passengers on board who, for the most
part, are very congenial and easy to chat with. And, travelling solo,
it's easy enough to escape the companionship of fellow passengers,
either by simply not striking up conversation or by retreating to your
cabin (I had a very comfy balcony cabin, so spending time there was a
pleasure).

The maitre d' did a great job seating me with other passengers who
were either also travelling solo - some were singles and some had
left their spouses home, like I had. Dinners in the dining room were a
pleasure - I felt no awkwardness travelling solo.

In the evenings, I usually check out the show (sitting in the back for
a quick escape if need be) or sit at a blackjack table in the casino.
I've found most people are sitting at casino tables alone, so easy
conversation abounds there as well.

I opted for two ship excursions on my cruise - another easy way to
meet folks. At the start of one (snorkeling in Nassau), I met a woman
who had also signed up for the excursion solo. So, we buddied up for
the snorkeling - worked great.

As far as tipping goes, I tipped the dining room staff a little more
than the "regular" amount, but no more for me (per person) than I
would have had I been travelling with someone else. The table was
full, and me travelling solo took nothing away from the waiters take.
However, I did give my cabin steward double (what he would have
received had there been two of us in the cabin), because I didn't feel
he should be penalized for an under-occupied cabin. And, he did a
terrific job.

Enjoy your solo cruise. Can't wait for my next.

I wonder...

Do you think Len would look good in Bunny Ears?
