Default Particular Safety Advice Needed (Paris and London)

Judging by the address, I think the poster was referring to Paris. It
may be better there- don't know. Definitely not the case in London, or
the UK though. Someone mentioned crepes in Paris. There are quite a few
(apparently French-run) crepe stalls in big UK cities nowadays. I can't
vouch for the hygeine, but it certainly seems OK, and the crepe is
obviously cooked in front of you. I've had no problems buying from those
vendors- and I certainly enjoyed the crepes.

Even supposing the vendor didn't wash his hands, etc., I would trust a
crepe cooked fresh on a very hot surface more than a hot dog made out of
???? that's been lying in lukewarm water for hours? days?

Well, I didn't make it explicit- but that's what I think too. Unless the
eggs are _really_ off, I suppose!
