For once I second TheMan. Why all the hassle to get to some bus
terminal if there is a bus from the airport. It'll cost a few pennies more but whocares after a long flight. There is a Thail Limo Bus that runs to pattaya on a regular schedule - In the beginning there was nothing........which exploded |

The original answer was a good one. Exit the front of the airport and ask where is the "airport bus". You can't miss it. There are two nice English speaking ladies at a desk and they will sell you a ticket and make sure you get on the right bus and that the driver understands your destination. This is a very nice, confortable, airconditioned tourist bus and cost 110 baht. (~$2) from there you ride to Ekeimi bus station. The ladies that sold you your ticket will make sure the driver knows where you need to go. At Ekeimi bus station you exit the airport bus, cross a busy street which is hardest part of the journey. (you can cross a street cant you?) and buy a ticket on the Airconditioned bus to Pattaya. 70 baht (~$1.55). Ekeimi bus station is an open building with booths for each destination. Go to the one that says Pattaya and buy a ticket. Your ticket will have an assigned seat. Once you reach Pattaya you board a baht bus that will be waiting at the bus terminal and he will take you strait to your hotel for 50 baht (~$1.10). The busses are very confortable, safe and easy to navigate and damn near as fast as a taxi for less than a 5th of the price. (taxi ~1400baht ~$31) It is a very good option for transportation. |

Sure, if you want to save a baht or two, but if he doesn't need to be
in BKK, I don't see the point of taking the airport bus all the way to Ekemai (and at the wrong time of day, this can take a loooooooooong time), get onto another bus and leave BKK again. So much easier to take some bus or minivan or heaven forbid, a taxi (when shared this option won't cost all that much compared to the cost of your airline ticket). I always fail to understand why people spend a small fortune to fly around the world and then don't want to cough up another 20$ to reach their final destination comfortably. Unless you are backpacking around, of course, here I assume the guy is just spending some time in Pattaya and then is heading back home. Oh well.... I'm just pointing out the bus is not uncomfortable and takes the tollway most of the way so most of the time traffic is not a major issue. An even shorter and only slightly more complicated solution is to take a taxi to Mochie bus station and ride the AC bus from there. Taxies, mini busses and "limos" are also a good solution to. Depends on personal taste. I just think some people see "the bus" in Thailand as some open, converted school bus with chickens and pigs in the back. The ones to Pattaya are really quite nice and quite confortable. |

I'm so used to the extremely comfortable Thai busses I simply forget some people may have the 'chickens and pigs in the back' idea. Hell, long-distance busses in Thailand are better than most busses in Europe and the US !!! Yeah, the airport bus takes the tollway most of the way, but unfortunately, the bit along Sukhumvit to Ekemai can take so looooong that very often, I just get off the bus around soi Nana or something and take the Skytrain (oh blessing!) to Ekemai and further on where I happen to spend quite a bit of time. Take a taxi to Mor Chit bus station. Cheers, Chanchao |
