the people who stayed at atlantis seem just like sheeple on cruise
ships. Lines are loooong for check in and out. It was nice to visit
but I'd rather stay at the RIU!!!!

The Riu is all inclusive so you can eat/drink all you want not paying
$29 for spaghetti at the atlantis. Pool is a bit small but beach is
great. Excellent breakfast buffet with anything you want!!!!! Atlantis
is a spectacle but is too disneyesque for my liking. Too many kids
running around.

Thanks for the info. I will skip it, undeisciplined kids are not my thing.
I'll sit on the ship with a good book.

I dont know if you'll be able to stay on the ship. You can see Atlantis
from just about anywhere in Nassau and it will call to you. I
definitely recommend wandering around if possible but wouldnt want to
stay there. There is also plenty to do in Nassau. GREAT liquor prices
and other shopping. Some nice history to see as well. The dolphin
encounter is well worth it too but I dont know how long youll be in
port.

Dont forget Senor Frog's!!!!! Staying in the Bahamas is a great
vacation-if you get out of nassau and see the other islands and such.

We spent a few hours on the beach. It was very nice (esp compared to TX
beaches that we have here). Water was clear and warm, the beach was clean.
There are vendors that will rent you umbrellas and other things. We first
walked around the Atlantis casino, then walked thru the restaurant where you
can view one side of the aquarium, then walked to the beach. Taxi fare each
way was reasonable. It was a good way to spend the day, albeit we were
re-routed to Nassau because of Tropical Storm Claudette and would rather
have been in Grand Cayman.

I have been to Nassau several times. On our last cruise in September we
were looking for something 'new' to do and since we never went to see
the Atlantis we booked it thru the shore excursions on board the ship. I
feel it was well worth it. If you decide to go over on your own you will
not have access to the dig/aquariums. You will need to take a water taxi
over to the Paradise Island terminal. We were issued bracelets and had
to show them when entering the dig and grounds. Without the bracelets
you will be limited to the casino areas only. At the end of the tour the
guide pointed us to a path that led to a public beach near the Atlantis
if anyone wanted to swim. The pools and private beach is off
limits...only hotel guests have access. IMO it was a well worth booking
the excursion!

I didn't find a lot of kids in the aquarium part.

Atlantis is jaw dropping, at least the view of the bridge room. The
aquariums and the dig are great; you may not ever see anything like it.
And the beach is pretty, with very nice sand...
