Philippines in April
I wonder what are the actual dates for the presidential
election in the RP next year. I also like an opinion whether this is a wise time to visit the RP (Manila + Bohol), i.e. whether there are expected to be demonstrations and other types of "unrest" in connection with the election. Thanks for your opinion Lene =========================================== European citizen - Scandinavian traveller =========================================== |

Hi Lene,
I don't have the exact date but the elections are in May. As for being a wise time, there are two factors: One, elections here have always been marked by some degree of demonstrations and unrest. Take for instance the elections where "People Power" took over. BUT Two, these times have always been the colorful and historical ones. As a foreigner, as long as you try to stay in MANILA, you will be safe. So the bottom line, if you were to ask me, the elections are a good time to be here if you want to see hostory in the making. Hope this helps, Alexis (Lene Hellgren) wrote in message om... I wonder what are the actual dates for the presidential election in the RP next year. I definitely wouldn't hesitate to go to the PI during that time. In fact, I
would personally love to go there during the elections since I am very interested in Philippine politics. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has finally declared she will run after saying last year that she would not seek the office. She will probably be opposed by an ex Marcos cronie and San Miguel chief, Danding Cojuanco, and possibly Sen Panfilo Lacson who recently did a supposed expose of corruption by the First Gentleman. I could go on and on but enough said. I would definitely go because it would be a fun and festive time due to the elections. "Lene Hellgren" wrote in message m...
