Default Priceline any good for best fares? US to Australia?

I have used priceline many times for very good hotel bargains which I
have been happy with. I have not been bold enough to use them for
flights though, especially international. There is a site that I have
recently useed for a low airfare to Australia called
travelauction.com. I was able to get a Los Angeles to Melbourne for
$727 plus taxes. They also have an any US city to Australia fare. This
site is a real auction, so you will have to bid against others for 1-2
tickets daily, but they do offer the same routes for bid every day.

I see that Priceline offers significant reductions in cost over regular
airlines, but does not show the airlines until tickts have been
purchased.

Who has experience with Priceline.com?

Planning to fly from IAD USA to MEL Austr.

It may reflect the LAX/SYD sale Cath recently posted--even paying for
an additional discounted SYD/MEL fare might well fall in this price
range. (Details at www.qantasusa.com/webDeals/172--it *is*
unbelievable!) Alas, I am already booked to get "up close and
personal" with Brood X and some relatives. (Human relatives, that is!)
