JETSTAR airport in Sydney area??
I am sure that the new Qantas based low cost Carrier JETSTAR will use Avalon
airport in the Melbourne area (instead of the usual Tullamarine) -- and I "heard" that maybe they were going to use Richmond in the Sydney area rather than Mascot. Anybody know for sure?? Thanks Barry |

Anybody know for sure?? Thanks Barry Why not just look up their website and get up to date www.jetstar.com.au Avalon airport is used only for flights to/from Sydney and Brisbane. What you heard about Richmond is well past use by date, although Jetstar wanted to use that airport they weren't allowed to, so they use Sydney Airport. Regards David Bennetts |

JETSTAR airport in Sydney area??
Apart from Vigrin, isn't there a single airline in Australia not owned by or
closely affiliated with Qantas? It seems that the Australian aviation market is is deep need of competition. "Barry Ward" wrote in message ... JETSTAR airport in Sydney area??
Australia has two domestic full-route airlines servicing a population of 19m
people. I don't know of any countries in the world with smaller population that support more than 2 domestic carriers. Its actually a pretty competitive market for its size. (Having said that, Sydney-Melbourne is the second heaviest airline route in the world after SF - LA, and having a choice of only two carriers on that route is bizarre. London-Paris has smaller volume but 11 carriers!). "Magnus S" wrote in message ... Apart from Vigrin, isn't there a single airline in Australia not owned by or closely affiliated with Qantas? More carriers will not bring the price down, as we saw when Compass Mark I and Mark II arrived. There is only so many people who will travel in a day, and these needs are being met, and on routes with high traffic there is very competitive fares. Now for the more remote services, I don't think we will ever see competitive fares there, just not enough pax to justify it. Tom |

JETSTAR airport in Sydney area??
Official comment from Jetstar
On 1 June our new operations at Avalon Airport commence flying, servicing Sydney (3 times daily) and Brisbane (double daily). Jetstar will be the only Australian commercial airline to operate flights out of a second capital city airport. Robin "Barry Ward" wrote in message ... It's debatable whether you could call Avalon a Melbourne airport, since it's closer to Geelong than Melbourne. Daniel |

Can I have a job as a transport/land use planner now? Les |

They're already flying; it's hardly a secret. http://www.jetstar.com/routeMap/ http://www.jetstar.com/flyingWithUs/airport/ -- David J Richardson -- June 23 to July 29, contact me at |
