Default Nassau - Paradise Island Body Surfing

Before our cruise, I had scoured all of the lists for information on
our port of calls including Nassau. Our family (all adults) were
planning on renting scooters when in Nassau as we were limited by the
ship's short stay so any trips to other parts of New Providence would
have been unrealistic.

As we were pulling into Nassau, we were passing right by Paradise
Island (a bridge away from Nassau) and noticed through binoculars that
there looked to be pretty good surf by the Atlantis resort (This looks
like a building Captain Nemo designed) Our family loves to body surf
so we changed our agenda. In summary, we paid for a round trip water
taxi ($6.00 pp) and walked 20 minutes to the beach public access next
to the Sheraton Hotel. Gawd, we had a great time in the surf. This is
not a place for the weak-hearted. If you love to body surf you would
love this surf, it was the best since we were in Hawaii. I did not
even know that the Carribean had surf like this. Whether the surf
fluxuates daily or not, I do not know. All I can say is that if you
like to body surf, be on the top of ship with binoculars and look down
the beach line as you pull into the island and check it for yourself.
For those who do not like surf or have small children, keep walking
down to your right about 400 yards. It looked like the water was calm.

One thing that I would recommend is to pay $3.00 pp for the water taxi
to Paradise Island and than take a land taxi back to the pier. It was
fun to see the harbor from the water, but on the way back being tired
and all, we would have saved the 20 min walk back to the taxi dock.
The land taxis are waiting right at the public beach access for people
leaving the beach.

Bon Voyage
