What to do if you get sick in India?

I picked up salmonella recently in New Delhi. Most of the time we ate
at restaurants listed in Lonely Planet, but one time went to a local
restaurant recommended by the hostel staff. Disaster for me, but not
for my mate who had the same dish. It may have been the mango pickle.

A local doctor diagnosed me promptly and put me onto aniobotics. And
put me on a drip twice to speed up the recovery so I could travel
home. Saw my GP at home when I had finished the drugs and I was
clear.

I'm now back at work in India. But being more careful about where I
eat. The message is the Indian GP had vastly more experience about
gastrointestinal problems than my GP.

That would have been my guess too. The way to be safe is to follow the
crowds of locals. If people start getting sick from the food somewhere, word
gets around fast - but nobody's going to chase you down and amend your copy
of Lonely Planet.

You should read more carefully or as Zen teaches don't let desires shape the
action.
