A road journey to Lhasa on the Sichuan Tibet Highway
welcome to my website - http://www.geocities.com/boochap/
Among the five highways stretching into Tibet, the Sichuan-Tibet Highway is the longest, and is one of the world's highest, most dangerous and the most beautiful road ever built. From Chengdu to Lhasa, the 2200km long road traverses uneven terrain over the most prestigious mountain ranges, crosses dozen of famous rivers and numberous stretch of boundless grasslands and forest. However, only very limited sections of the road have been asphalt paved, at many locations, unpaved surfaces often devolve into muddy track if not completely washed away. Over the years since opening for traffic in 1954, travelling along the highway has never been safe, frequent landslides, random rock falls or heavy snow falls have more than often cut off connections for days or months. |
