Default Schengen visa question

I have gotten into a confusing situation thanks to some bad planning
on my part. I had some tentative plans to visit Germany for a few days
and I applied for a tourist visa at the German consulate in San
Francisco . They issued me a multiple entry Schengen visa today that
is valid for the duration of the trip but now my plans appears certain
to change because of some friends and we now intend to visit Finland
on the same dates instead. I do not have enough time on my hands to
apply at the Finnish consulate which also has to be done by mail, so
is it possible to use the German schengen visa to travel to Finland?
It was issued based on a German itenirary so I am wondering if it
restricts me to have to visit Germany first? This restriction would
practically mean that I would need to cancel my trip. Any tips
appreciated,

thanks

Why not ring up the Finnish visa office and ask them.

I must add that the last time someone travelled with me on a Schengen visa
it wasn't stamped at all on entry or exit so there's no proof it was used at
the appropriate border on the first time it was used. neither was there any
checking of the rather silly insurance rules...

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.
