No, as I'm already familiar with apnea treatments from the medical literature, so I don't need to read articles intended for the general public. The article doesn't discuss the damne disease per se, while I bet you're correct about a high blood pressure cause, tho again in my layperson preposterous speculation there ain't hardly nuthin that don't cause blood to circulate--death *excepted Hypertension results from compensating mechanisms that try to maintain oxygenation even when breathing stops. *The blood pressure can rise extremely high over short periods, and it seems that it may become chronically high if this occurs regularly. I am not qualified to argue chemistry and biology (including physiology), as course work is not rated As, Bs, nor Cs in my semi terrific grades WIKI encourages inputs for corrections of errors of fact & also alternative opinions/slants about subjects I'll think twice before I tout that "harmless drug" for staying awake |

Et Tu Sleep Apnea? Thou Shalt Simultaneously Not Nap: Why G-D Created Co-Pilots
Robert Cohen writes:
I'll think twice before I tout that "harmless drug" for staying awake It's not so much whether the drug is harmless or not, it's just that the main problem with apnea is that you're not getting enough sleep (and, during the apneic episodes themselves, you're not getting enough oxygen). Taking a stimulant won't give you any more rest or oxygen. The only solution is to remove whatever is causing the apnea so that you can get a full night's rest without waking up or suffering from hypoxia. Many people with apnea are overweight; losing weight is one excellent way to reduce the incidence of the disorder. Sleeping differently can help. A CPAP that provides positive pressure in the airway can prevent the obstruction that causes obstructive sleep apnea. And so on. |
