Default Phuket: Cheep guest house and a place to escape to...

I am going to Phuket to meet a friend from BKK and don't want to spend
too much time or money there. So here are my two simple questions:

A cheap place to stay for a few days in Phuket town?

Some good places to take my friend that are not to touristy? Can be on
Phuket or within a few hours by bus. Could even be a small fishing
village with one crapy guesthouse.

I have been to Thailand a few times but have thus far been able to
avoid Phuket.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Todd,

I have been staying for years in Suksabai hotel in Phuket town. Large
spacious and clean rooms with attached bath for 200 baht.
There is a small local and very inexpensive restaurant right in front of it.
Dont let the appearance fool you, the proprietor makes some great food.
Very recommendable. Suksabai Hotel is some 10 minutes away from the bus
station on thepkastri road in a small soi.
Great value for your money and very friendly staff.

regards
