Warm in March
Anyone got a good suggestion for a two week break in March somewhere warm and affordable ? Travelling from Glasgow, Scotland Most of the U.S. will be cold in March except for the southern-most states and California. You're on a budget so you'll probably want to stay in the eastern U.S. since it's closer. The Orlando (Florida) area is popular since it's near several great theme parks (including Disney World) and within driving distance of NASA, beaches, and other tourist attractions. In March the average daily high in Orlando is 79 F (28 C), though it gets chilly at night. However, I doubt if the water will be warm enough for swimming in March unless it's at a heated pool. Also, prices can be high in that area, but with careful planning you can find reasonable accomidations. There is a Disney World newsgroup where you could get suggestions on affordable motels in that area. Another possibility would be to spend a few days (not the whole 2 weeks) of your trip in New Orleans (average high of 72F in March). It's a longer flight, but the hotels will probably be offering good deals in an effort to attract tourists back to the city. Right now the city is recovering from the recent floods, but the French Quarter is open again and by March most of the popular tourist areas will probably be going strong. Also, many of the nearby tourist attractions such as the old plantations weren't damaged and are open as usual. James |

Tony*Cummins asked:
Anyone got a good suggestion for a two week break in March somewhere warm and affordable? Yes, Florida appears to be your best choice budget-wise from the U.K. but note: a March vacation in Florida means college spring break, thus some beach areas will be overrun with partying students ... Daytona, Clearwater, Fort Myers to a lesser extent, and others. You can easily find places without that, so don't let it stop you, but it it is something to be aware of. You might check Caribbean prices as well. |

It's not as trendy as Miami but still has much to offer.
