Road conditions to Esteros del Ibera / Colonia pelligrini
Hello
Does anybody know what the road conditions are to get to Col. Peligrini near Esteros del Ibera? Is it reachable with a normal car? I'm planning to go there in December, traveling from the north (Iguazu). Kind regards Marc Netherlands |

Road conditions to Esteros del Ibera / Colonia pelligrini
Hi Marc:
I'm glad that you decide to visit one of the most important wetlands in the world. This Natural Reserve hosts a large biodiversity, including four species that have been declared "provincial natural monuments": the Neotropical River Otter, the Maned Wolf, the Pampas Deer and the Marsh Deer. It is also home to the two Argentine species of alligator, the Yacare Caiman (yacaré negro) and the Broad-snouted Caiman (yacaré overo), as well as the capybara (the world's largest rodent) and about 350 bird species. From Iguazú take the way to Buenos Aires, and after leave Posadas, when you reach Santo Tomé, take the road to Colonia Carlos Pellegrini. it's 120Km of not consealed route, but transitable. Fill the tank because I'm not sure if there are gas stations. Ask before to take the road; frecuent rains make many holes in the road. Another way is to continue the main route till Mercedes, and from there FILL the tank again (I'm sure there's not in this) and it's 130Km same kind of road, but it's keept in better condition. See the map of the area in http://www.corrientes.com.ar/carlosp...mages/mapa.gif There is a note in Dutch in http://blogs.cocoondev.org/worldtrip...es/001822.html For accommodation in my cosy guesthouse in Buenos Aires: http://www.lodging4all.com.ar Good trip!!
