Default Airfare from US to Australia

Hi,
I plan on taking a trip to Australia for about 5-6 months. Going to
the Gold Coast, it seems tickets will cost over 2 grand (looking at
online airfares as well as talking to travel agents). Does anyone know
of any ways to get cheaper airfare, or is it generally more expensive
to have 6 month tickets?

Thanks for any advice you can offer!

You'll find the prices vary depending on your country of
origin, particularly with Star Alliance. There are also
seasonal variations based on your departure date.

If you are from the US, contact AA for a one-world alliance
price. There are also One-World "Global Explorer" and
"Circle Pacific" fares which have slightly different rules.

Contact US Airways for the Star Alliance pricing.

I think Continental have a rtw fare, it may also be worth
checking Northwest who have an arrangement with KLM and Air
France. Lufthansa also has rtw.

There are also various specialists in discount rtw fares if
you do some googling. I'm checking some at the moment, but
mine are Oz based.

To give you an idea of what is possible, over five months in
2003, for AU$2880(US$2160) including taxes we had 16 flights
using One-World. OOL-SYD, SYD-LAX, SJC-LAS, LAS-STL,
STL-MSY, BWI-LGA, JFK-STT, STT-SJU, SJU-MAD, GRE-MAD,
MAD-NCE, CDG-DUB, DUB-EDN, LHR-SIN, SIN-MEL, MEL-OOL.

I'm now planning another one. Using Global Explorer it will
be about AU$3300(US$2475) with taxes/fees. However, the
prices could be quite different in your country. This one
will be to Singapore, Bahrein, Egypt, Europe, UK, USA,
Tahiti, New Zealand and home.

When checking non-rtw fares to Australia, always check Air
New Zealand, Qantas and Emirates web-sites for their
specials.

Cheers, Alan, Australia

Try to fly LA--to brisbane -- there are Qantas direct flights
Gold coast is close to brisbane airport with good travel links.
Check out qantas site . fares will be competitive.
