Avoiding Twin Fares When for a Single When on a Tour (India)?
I sometimes travel as a single, and very often if it's a commercial
tour, they want fares for two for the best rates for each person. Single rates seem to cost about 30-50% higher. Aside from bugging friends or advertising, is there a way to reduce these costs? I just looked more closely at one travel tour and the prices are a bit worse than I thought. For example, $750 vs $1250, and $1200 vs $2400. |

For example, $750 vs $1250, and $1200 vs $2400. The way most tour companies present tour prices is per person double occupancy. That means, per person sharing a room. The way they calculate this is, they take the cost of the hotel room, for example, $100 a night, the room cost is usually the same for 1 person or 2. 1 person in the room = $100 per room per night 2 people in the room = $100 per room per night To establish the “price per person double occupancy”, they take the room cost ($100) and divide it by 2 ($50), that’s the cost of “per person double occupancy”. So the cost for 1 night hotel is $50 per person double occupancy or $100 for a single room. Then they add the cost of transfers & sightseeing, for example, $200 per person. So the cost of a 1-night package with hotel, transfers & sightseeing is: $50 hotel + $200 transfers & sightseeing = $250 per person double occupancy $100 hotel + $200 transers & sightseeing = $300 per person single occupancy Traveling as a single person on a package that includes a hotel night (s), you will always pay more than the "per person double occupancy" price. There are some group tour companies that offer you the option to share a room with another person (same gender) that you don't know. This way you will pay the "price per person double occupancy", however, there are not many companies that offer this option. I'm sorry this doesn't answer your question about finding a way to reduce the cost, but I hope this will help you understand how the prices you are seeing are calculated. geno.y |
