Default Penn Station to JFK

Sorry if this has been asked millions of times before, but how does one
get (economically) from Penn Station to JFK? I've heard about the "A"
train, but this would likely be at night; is it safe? Any other
shuttles or anything? Thanks.

It's perfectly safe. For a few dollars more and about half an hour less, you
could take the LIRR (Long Island Railroad) which also departs Penn Station.

Have you heard about the JFK Airtrain which began operation last December?
It connects JFK with both the "A" train (subway) and with the LIRR and
E/J/Z subways at Jamaica. See http://www.panynj.com/ and follow the
link for "Airtrain JFK". The quickest and easiest connection is probably
with the LIRR, but you'd better check the LIRR evening schedule from Penn
Station; probably not as many trains as during the day.

"A" train to Howard Beach Station and Air TRain to JFK. $2 for the
subway, $5 for the Air Train
LIRR to Jamaica Station, Air train to JFK. Air train cost is $5 -
don't know LIRR cost but it will be more than $2.
NY Airport Bus Service - $13. Bus leaves from 34th and 7th Avenue.
