Default Hotel Recommendations - Garden Route, Durbs, Draks

We'll be driving the Garden Route at the end of November and figure to stop
between Mossel Bay and Knysna one night, then on to PE. We then fly to
Durbs for two nights and pick up a car to drive to Joburg, expecting to stop
at Giant's Castle along the way. Anyone have and reasonably priced hotel
recommendations for those areas?

Mike.

Hi Mike
The garden route is full of B&B's which are reasonably
priced. As you will be traveling outside of school hol;idays
the places won't be crowded, so there will not be any need
to book in advance. In Durban stay out of the town preferably
in the northern suburbs again there are some very good B&B's
In Jo'burg the City Lodge is your best bet, again stay in the
northern suburbs, and stay out of the CBD.

The best value-for-money way to find accomodation all over South
Africa is at the thousands of B+B's all over the country. As you drive
into a town, you will see signs pointing the way to the various B+B's
in the town. Pickone that looks nice, and ask them if they have a
vacancy. In November you shouldn't have a problem.

Depending on the town, a good B+B will go for anything from R85 ($13)
to R500 ($80) per night.

You will find that most B+B's will have secure parking, a clean and
neat room, BTW, in spite of being called a Bed AND Breakfast, some of
them don't offer breakfast.

What I like about a B+B is that you get to meet local people, and you
learn a lot about the area etc.

Marc - Johannesburg

I recommend Abalone Guest Houses in Knysna.
These are charming log houses, brand new,
a few minutes drive from the heart of town.
We stayed there for a couple of nights last
month and loved it.
