seeking information about JFK airport in NYC
Hi I need to pick up a foreigner relative (non-English speaking,
first-time arrival in US) at JFK, where I have not been for many years. I assume that I can not get into the luggage pick-up area at international arrival, am I right ? I want to know where I am supposed to meet her... Any expert's here out there is appreciated !

Yes, you're right, international passengers must clear both immigration and customs before you can meet them. But more important, different airlines arrive at different terminals, and if you are at the wrong terminal, you could be a mile away from your friends. What airline are they flying?
