I spend a week end in London in september looking for information FOR HOTELS in central London nice and not too expensive THANK YOU HT Usually central London = quite horrible and expensive. My brother stayed at Hyde Park Rooms a month ago (which is not really at Hyde Park but near Paddington) and found that to be quite OK (see tripadvisor reviews). Regards David Bennetts Australia |

I'm interested to know which aspects of central London you find quite horrible. He might be meaning that the quality of hotel for the price is horrible? It's expensive, but I don't think it's particularly any worse than a lot of other popular capital cities... I'm afraid I don't know what the OP means by 'not too expensive.' If £40ish, then EasyHotel (try and get a window) if £80 and up, then Jurys Russell Square often have weekend specials- we stayed there in June for £80 a night (including VAT) and it was very nice. We got the deal through laterooms.com- oddly, the Jurys website had the same 'deal' but added VAT on top, making it more expensive! -- (*) of the royal duchy of city south and deansgate -www.davidhorne.net (email address on website) "If people think God is interesting, the onus is on them to show that there is anything there to talk about. I'm interested to know which aspects of central London you find quite horrible. Ian I was referring to the general standard of accommodation provided in Central London, not the city itself. If you look at Trip Advisor reports you'll see why. Very shabby rooms and poor service at high prices. London is not unique in that regard. David Bennetts |

wrote: I spend a week end in London in september looking for information FOR HOTELS in central London nice and not too expensive THANK YOU HT Give www.hotwire a try. It can be a lucky dip, although a little research on www.tripadvisor.com usually gives some idea of the hotel or area you will get. Last April I stayed for four nights at the Regent's Park Holiday Inn for US$538.60 including taxes and fees via Hotwire. That works out at about GBP67 per night. The hotel was US-style, comfortable and quite acceptable. The location was reasonable, not far from two tube stations (Great Portland Street and Regents Park) and I walked down to Oxford Street a couple of times. There is a coin laundrette nearby and good breakfast cafes within a couple of blocks. On a previous trip in 2006 I stayed very cheaply at the 4* Thistle Marble Arch via www.priceline.com using the "bidding" system . If you are staying for more than a day or two, I found this apartment near Marble Arch was great value when I stayed in 2003: http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p1904. If you decide on that one, book early; I intended staying there for both my later trips but was too late when I tried to book. If the site is current, the weekends of the 13th and 27th may be available. The review comment on that site looks accurate to me. In central London I made good experiences with Hilton Kensington.
Reasonable price, good quality, walking distance to Hyde park. In the meantime I tried to Ibis hotels outside central London. The one at Wembley stadium is located directly at a train station and in walking distance from two tube stations - different lines. Unfortunately they usually increases prices during weekends. From Ibis Heathrow you can almost watch planes on the runway, but the rooms are quiet. Take free bus line 555 from Harlington Corner at the hotel to Heathrow terminal tube station / airport. Oh, and for London in September I recommend to choose a hotel with A/ C. All hotels mentioned above are airconditioned. virtuPIC -- Airspace V - international hangar flying! http://www.airspace-v.com/ggadgets for tools & toys |
