2 questions on Venice vaporetti
Hi all
Just want to check 2 things on the venice vaporetti before I go. 1. Can I get a vaporetti from the airport down the grand canal to St Marks Square? 2. Does the 3 day vaporettis passes allow you to go to the lagoon islands, or do I need a seperate ticket for that? Thanks so much in advance! Yes (but it's a vaporetto; vaporetti is the plural) 2. Does the 3 day vaporettis passes allow you to go to the lagoon islands, or do I need a seperate ticket for that? Yes (to the first question) -- PB The return address has been MUNGED |

1. Can I get a vaporetti from the airport down the grand canal to St
Marks Square? The Alilaguna boat from the airport http://www.alilaguna.it/ doesn't go down the Grand Canal--it just traverses the lagoon--stopping at Murano and Lido before crossing over to San Marco (taking over an hour). If you want to arrive in San Marco via the Grand Canal you could take the express bus from the airport to Piazzale Roma (20 minute ride) http://tinyurl.com/2lbbg and then pick up vapo #82 from Piazzale Roma to San Marco http://www.actv.it/ . 2. Does the 3 day vaporettis passes allow you to go to the lagoon islands, or do I need a seperate ticket for that? The 3-day pass includes Lido, Murano, Burano, and Torcello. |

Does the 3 day vaporettis passes allow you to go to the lagoon islands, or do I need a seperate ticket for that? Have a look at www.alilaguna.com and http://www.venicecard.com/cose_eng.jsp A three day blue Venice Card seems to cover the Aliliguna trip from the airport which, indeed, goes to St Marks (Either Giardinetti or San Zaccaria) It also covers trips to Murano Burano and Torcello. The 41 and 42 run around Venice in opposite directions and also go out to Murano. The "DM" from Piazzale Roma, goes direct to Murano also. The easiest way to Burano or Torcello is to get the 41/42 or 51/52 and get off at Fondementa Nuove(Opposite the cemetery island of San Michele). There is a direct line to Burano and a local link from there to Torcello. They go about every half hour. It should all be included in your Venice Card Blu. I was there two weeks ago and that was the situation but they change the routes at the drop of a hat. Apparently they recently made major changes the day before they published a new route map of the old routes. You should check at least two sources before believing them. |

Thanks so much in advance! ------------------- There's a free shuttle from the terminal to the Aliliguna (vaporetto) dock. Its 10 Euro per person from the Airport to St. Marks. It takes about an hour, but IMO, a much better way to arrive/depart if you have luggage than standing, crammed in like sardines in one of the Grand Canal vaporetti. Check out http://www.alilaguna.it/ Passes are good on all ACTV (city) vaporetti, including lagoon islands, but not on the Aliliguna boats. The Venice train station website has some interesting links. "Rog'" wrote in message .. . Passes are good on all ACTV (city) vaporetti, including lagoon islands, but not on the Aliliguna boats. You might well be correct. As I intimated in my previous post, all is not what it seems in Italy. Here is a direct quote lifted from the VeniceCard site: //IF YOU ARRIVE BY PLANE You can buy VENICEcard which includes the Alilaguna shuttle service by motoboat, to and from the airport on arrival and departure.// |
