Thanks, sounds good.

I've a quote from Asda (of all people) for ~55 GBP for multi-trip
exc. North America - will check the above and report back!

Direct Travel produced a quote for 51, including North America.

Ouch !!! The Directs travel quote for my husband and I was £175, thats £62
more than the equivalent cover from Churchill !!! The only difference is
they also include 17 days wintersports-which we don't need.

Not sure where these quotes of AU$500 etc are coming from - I
sincerely hope that's NOT what they have to pay in Oz! :-(

It seems to be an antipodean thing. 2 years ago I bought an annual
travel policy in NZ(as I was going back to the UK and across the ditch
to Aus regularly for work) It cost over NZ$700 (can't remember the
exact amount now) This was for a worldwide multi-trip policy with each
trip covered for a maximum of 42 days. I was dumbfounded at this as I
was used to the relatively cheap annual policies I used to buy in the
UK, but it was still cheaper than buying individual policies for each
trip as these horrendous prices aren't just limited to annual policies
on my last trip to the UK for 6 weeks I was quoted around NZ$450 (for a
single trip policy)
(We can get similar cover by using a gold credit card from our local
bank as long as we pay for at least 50% of the trip on the card and as
the annual fee is $100 we use this method these days)

(On the other hand other insurances eg car seem to be cheaper than in
the UK)

Golly, what a lot of work to go to... given the subject line grin.

Doh! I read it too - it must have just somehow got lost. My brain
has not worked well this week. I bought a new car at the weekend,
picked it up the morning and left my old car with the dealer (as part
exchange). Got to work to discover my brief case, including all the
system backups for my company (not to mention my lunch), was still in
the old car.

No worries, Simon. It happens all the time. For some reason or
another, many (most?) people do not really read/catch the 'Subject:' of
a thread/article.

Even after 20+ years on Usenet it still happens to me.

For example I did catch the "insurance for travel" bit, but I noticed
the ".uk" bit in Mary's e-mail address. I didn't catch it from the
'Subject:'. Also I didn't catch the "PNG" bit untill it was mentioned in
the/a *body* (by Les). I thought "Why does he say '(PNG?)'?", but
thought nothing further of it, because it was not relevant for my
response. Only *later*, I saw that it was in the 'Subject:'.

At work I am very particular about making subject lines relevant and
accurate, freely biting the head off anyone who sends me something
with "stuff" or something equally useless in the subject line. I am
normally very careful to read them but on this occasion I only took
note of the fact she was asking about insurance.

The fact that some people responded by quoting Australian policies in
local currency probably didn't help me focus on the actual question
either!

I still felt a pratt phoning the car dealership and asking if they
could rescue my brief case from the car and keep it safe for my return
this evening.

Fair point, I should've repeated the info in the body.
