I want to go to Tijuana early Dec ( day trip). I will travel to San Diego.
Can I park it securely then catch a bus to Tijuana? Any tips for shopping or just find my way? Thanks Harvey Australia |

Harvey,
You can park safely at several of the San Diego trolley stops, take the trolley to the border, and walk across. Then you can take a Mexican taxi or bus to wherever you're going. See http://www.sdcommute.com/ Crossing into Mexico is usually easy, but it can take several hours to return, even on foot, depending on the time of day. Bring your passport. Weather in December should usually be quite comfortable, a little cool. DKM On Wed, 6 Oct 2004 07:05:08 +0800, "Wallbanger" wrote: I want to go to Tijuana early Dec ( day trip). Since you'll be leaving the U.S. and re-entering, make sure that's legal. You get there by taking the trolley to San Ysidro from anywhere on the trolley system. From there, it's a short walk to the tourist zone along Avenida Revolucion. Once you get past this, Tijuana starts to look a lot more like Mexico. I haven't been to Tijuana in a number of years, but the San Diego paper seems to have some interesting suggestions and other useful info. See http://www.signonsandiego.com/bajaguide/Tijuana.html . If you have a car and just want a quick, off-the-beaten-path, pleasant, low-key taste of Mexico, consider driving about 50 miles east of San Diego to Tecate. You can park in Tecate, California, on the U.S. side for about $3.00, and then walk a few hundred feet to Tecate, Baja California. Once you're there, there's not a whole lot to do, but the town makes for pleasant strolling, and the famous Tecate brewery will give you a free beer even if you don't take the tour. Of course, for a few pesos more, you can find a taco stand near the town plaza and get some tacos to cushion the impact of the beer. -- --- "Wake Up, Everybody."--McFadden/Whitehead/Carstarphen RIP John Whitehead 1948-2004 |

Can I park it securely then catch a bus to Tijuana? We took the SD Trolley from near SeaWorld to its southern terminus, mere feet from the border crossing, and hoofed it over and back. It didn't take long, nor was it crowded. I didn't have my passport, my wife had hers; no hassles. On the way back on the trolley, armed transit police boarded no less than three times to check tickets. Not a peep on the way down. Telling. Funny thing: my cellphone stopped working just at a pedestrian bridge that seemed to mark the border, and started right back up there when I was headed back. |

Thanks Harvey Australia Yes. Just take the highway to San Ysidro and last exit before the border. Well marked. Secure parking lots, $5- $6-. Buses leave from the lots. A $1- bus ride will get you downtown. You can look around there and take the bus back, or just walk back to the border. Half an hour if you walk briskly, longer if you dawdle. If you just park on the US side and walk across the bridge you enter a large shopping/ entertainment zone. More interesting to take the bus downtown. |
