Russia's S7 cancels Boeing 787 order
Russia's S7 cancels Boeing order Story from BBC NEWS: http://news.bbc.co.uk/go/pr/fr/-/2/h...ss/7859155.stm Russian airline S7 has cancelled an order worth $2.4bn (£1.7bn) for 15 Boeing-787 Dreamliner aircraft. It is the first airline to cancel a major contract for the 787. The news will come as a blow to Boeing. The launch of its new jetliner has been delayed by a strike by machinists and production problems. S7 did not give a reason for the cancellation but said it "retains interest in using the Dreamliner" and will look to lease the planes instead. A Boeing spokesman said the company did not comment on customer discussions. Production of the aircraft was delayed after a two-month strike by machinists in a row over pay and job cuts last year. It has also struggled with design problems and parts shortages. Boeing still aims to deliver the first Dreamliner in 2010. On Wednesday Boeing said it planned to cut 10,000 jobs this year. |

At Davos Putin tells Dell that Russia is not crippled when the puter tycoon presumably makes a ptch for a joint venture The Boeing cancellation is a weather vane that oil at $35--$45 a barrel is not good for oil exporters When oil was $147 a barrel, Putin and OPEC had a slightly different attitude about reality At Davos, Michael Dell asked Putin publicly what he of the West could do to help, and Putin, whom kicked out British Petroleum and apparently scared off outsider investors/speculators, expressed anger-resentment for "help" What am I saying? I dunno since I'm a small-minded thinker, but here goes anyhow Russia has such enormous development potential that Putin ought to change the insularity image & anger over oil prices There are dozens if not hundreds if not thousands of capitalists seeking to deal in Russia's markets As I interpret reality, Putin has to re-realize that his nation's success depends on the British Petroleums and Dell Computers WIN-WIN dealings So, the world economies are generally hurting and including Russia, China, Brzazil, and India, which were flourishing ...what....just 6 months ago? I suppose Russia has plenty of gold in storage, and she'll get through the recession if true |
