Does it make sense to buy some Euro’s now? If I do is there a way to
keep them in an account drawing interest. I’m talking about
approximately $1,000.
Also, I haven’t decided on a destination yet. Certainly Spain and
Greece are possibilities. Will there economic difficulties translate
into bargains for a traveler with dollars to spend?

Your timing might be right to at least hedge your bets on the Euro.

A lot of money has been lost in the last year or so by people who
thought the "timing might be right to at least hedge your bets."

Your timing might be right to at least hedge your bets on the Euro. It
hit a one year low today, and Barrons says it's the time to buy dollars
with Euros.

IMHO anyone who think that the only way for the Euro from here is up, is a
fool.

My personal guess is that the euro will continue to decline for
at least a year. But I'm not willing to put any money on it.

The Chinese yuan is the safest bet to rise against the US dollar. In
addition to the economic forces, there is a lot of political pressure
to increase the value of the RMB.

Look at what has driven the Euro to its new low. Has that problem gone
away? Are there more problems to come?

let me know when a pound buy 1.5 euros again.....

Why does it have to reach 1.5 for now to be the wrong time to buy?

Even if it (only) goes up to 1.25 you should wait

Why so modest,

Nothing to do with modesty, it was just my recollection of the exchange
rates in 1966.

it used to be DM 20 at one time. Whichi is why before
2002 "Pfund" was colloquial German for a 20 DM note.

I didn't know that

There was time when a pound was RM milliards.

I inherited a box full of notes and postage stamps from that era - it
was fascinating seeing the increasingly enormous numbers on them.

I wonder if all the nations that presently comprise the euro, will
still be part of it in one years time.

I just have to shake my head, I listened here, for years, about all
the regulations imposed to make sure deficit spending was under
control in the euro zone... apparently... not so much.

So how long are France and Germany gonna stick around to bail out
Greece, Portugal, Spain and maybe even Italy... or demand their
expulsion?

A trip to Europe is looking a lot more inviting this year...

I've never heard that for money, only weight.
