She probably wouldn't have got that police response anywhere
outside the US, but we have loudmouth mobile users too. The
same people who, 20,000 years ago, would have found the most
annoying way possible to bang rocks together amd would have
sat at the back of one of the Lascaux caves doing it for hours.

Some Turkish long-distance buses have both "no smoking" and
"no mobile phone" symbols sandblasted into the windows. Unlike
the no-smoking signs on UK buses they are taken seriously.

Nope, it's not punitiveness, it's adequate staffing. Turkish buses
nearly always have two staff on board, so the driver isn't left to
deal with antisocial arseholes alone as in the UK. I would *really*
not like to be a driver on some of the routes that serve this village.
