Default Driving cross country with expired tags - how to avoid police?

In most states I am aware of insurance companies
have a special rate for cars being stored.

A few years ago I had to store my car for 6 months. Someone suggested I
tell my insurance agent, which hadn't occured to me, and he adjusted
the coverage and my rate was dramatically lower.

Jim
