QM 2 Gets New Safety Gear!
Hi Everyone,
I received this press release from Cunard and thought it would be of interest. If you have missed any of my news' postings, they are available on my web site. Best regards, Ray LIGHTHOUSE TRAVEL 800-719-9917 or 805-566-3905 http://www.lighthousetravel.com QUEEN MARY 2: SAFETY ENHANCEMENTS IN BATHROOMS MIAMI The United Kingdom Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) has brought to Cunard Line’s attention the fact that panels in some bathrooms on Queen Mary 2 do not fully meet fire regulation standards. This is despite the materials used conforming to the relevant certification before the ship entered service in January 2004. During this time, there have been no problems with these materials. The MCA has stressed that the material under consideration is in a normally low-risk area of the cabin. The cabins and adjacent corridors are equipped with smoke detectors and sprinklers. Nevertheless, Cunard Line is immediately taking further protective measures by installing additional smoke detectors during the ship’s turnaround in Southampton, England, tomorrow and increasing the ship’s fire patrols. Furthermore Cunard will be extending the cabin sprinkler system into the bathrooms themselves and replacing the front panel of the bathroom vanity unit. These actions have been endorsed by the MCA who are satisfied that passenger safety is not compromised. According to Peter Ratcliffe, executive director, Carnival Corporation and plc, owners of Cunard Line: “Passengers on Queen Mary 2 can travel confident in the knowledge that their safety and security is of paramount importance to us at all times. We appreciate the assistance of the MCA in helping us to deal with this issue in a prompt and expeditious manner.” Cunard Line has operated the most famous ocean liners in the world since 1840. Cunard vessels have a classic British heritage and include QE2, Caronia and Queen Mary 2, destined to recapture the glamour of the original Queen Mary, currently a hotel and attraction in Long Beach, CA. In 2007, Queen Victoria, joins the fleet. All Cunard Cruises can be booked by contacting your travel professional. Cunard Line is a proud member of World’s Leading Cruise Lines.
