Default calling cards in Germany

I'm making a short trip to Berlin tomorrow, and wondered what the
cheapest way of making calls to the UK would be. Calling cards? Do they
incur the same kinds of penalties (i.e. hefty) when using freephone as
in the UK? I'll have my mobile, but would rather not give Orange too
much of my money!

If anyone sees this in time, and can post back, TIA!

This page explains a way to phone rather cheap without the need of buying a
calling card.
If you use a credit card in a public phone of Deutsche Telekom they will
charge a fee of 1 Euro, but otherwise the same rates as normal apply (i.e.
the 0,20 Euro per minute if you use the method described at the above link).

By far the cheapest method is of course to use call-by-call from a private
phone connection. E.g. with 01024 2,1 Eurocent per minute. The problem is of
course that as a tourist you normally have no access to such a line. And
don't use the phone from your hotel. They charge other prices.

And the call-by-call numbers are blocked in the most hotels.

That's useful. I did see some phonecards, but in the end my trip was too
short to bother with it, and I just made a few calls from my mobile.

My trip has been extended somewhat however. I'm currently stuck at
Schönefeld with a 2 hour dalay....
