Sheesh! Just read the last reply!

Rent a dent are rip-offs!

Ace or ARF Rentals offer much better prices.

ARF: http://www.hirecar.co.nz/
Ace: http://www.acerentals.co.nz/

Neither charges per kilometer for a start!

Ahipara Motor Camp just five minutes from Kaitaia has a great very
comfortable backpackers, a few minutes from the beach.

That's one I had in mind as well. But if the Hokianga Farmstay isn't that
far from Ahipara motorcamp I might consider staying there instead of at
the
motorcamp.

Hokianga
Farmstay also have a backpacker option at $45pp incl dinner and
breakfast.

That sounds interesting. Where can I find it? I'm taking the ferry to
Rawene.

If you are going near Akaroa Le Bons Bay backpackers is a lovely
retreat.

Yes, I'm going to Akaroa but I was thinking of basing myself in
Christchurch.

Try Rent a dent car hire for a good deal

thanks for the info.

No worries, have sent email to friend in a yard there and he will confirm
that the will or wont do a deal like that. Usually do but hey, minds are
made for changing.
Will repost on his return email.
AA is available, when I was there it was only $55 a year to join plus $25
joining fee, well worth the added protection, car yards dont get into your
car for you when yourve locked the keys in it or jump start ya car when ya
left the lights on no matter how good their warrenty is.

Also you must check out the Blue and green lakes and buried village in
Rotorua.

If your into Mountain biking, a MUST is hiring a bike and going around the
Redwoods in Rotorua, around 50-60kms of man made tracks that bikers flock to
from all around the world. Ive done it and would go back there anytime.

Hi Scott,

Can only recommend one in Hamilton which you would have to get down to

from
Auckland.

That's okay, shoot anyway.

Buying from a yard you would have to strick a deal with a written buyback
price. Most yards would have a nationwide warrenty so you can take it
anywhere to be fixed if it does give ya greif. Just make sure that you
can
do that if you do buy from a yard.

I'll keep that in mind, thank you. I don't think AA is included, is it?
Nor
insurance?

By the way, why arnt you travelling North of Auckland? Some real good

senery
up there and nicer weather.

I am. I'm going up one way and come down the other,
Leigh/Whangarei/Pahia/Cape Reinga/Kaitaia/Kauri Forests and then to the
Coromandel Peninsula

:-) I can always see if my AA from home is valid in NZ too and if not, join
to be on the safe side.

Also you must check out the Blue and green lakes and buried village in
Rotorua.

I was thinking of camping in Blue Lakes Holiday Park. Buried Village is part
of what i intend to see but Green Lakes don't ring a bell.

Hmm, I haven't done any mountain biking at all but I might give it a go.
It's possible it could become an acquiered taste :-)

thanks

Ace is familiar but ARF is an unknown quantity. I'll check out both. Thanks

Better to buy "at market" that is , Turners Auctions, and sell "at market".
Just keep to common japanese models.
