Ayer's rock
Hi all,
Can anyone recommend a cheap hostel near Ayers rock? Will be there next April for 2 days so want to stay near Ayers rock and not further away in Alice springs. I have heard that accommodation gets booked up pretty fast in the area! So are there any alternatives to hostelling? Thank you in advance Pritesh |

There's a campground there. But it's usually fairly packed and booking is
always a good idea. Cheers Jim "Pritesh" wrote in message ... Hi all, Can anyone recommend a cheap hostel near Ayers rock? Packed and not cheap - $12.10 in 2001 as I recall, for an unpowered site
around the size of a postage stamp. Still, bush camping is verboten for obvious reasons so if you want to be at the rock for sunup, it's your only camping choice unless you're on a tour. in article , Jim at wrote on 12/31/03 9:08 PM: There's a campground there. The hostel wasn't cheap either, though it was way back in 1991 when I stayed there. I remember it being the most expensive hostel I stayed in on the whole trip. It also had large dorms. I'd highly recommend Safari Tours if you want to go on a tour. I did their 5 day trip last year. The tents are all permanent and you get a camp bed to sleep on rather than the floor. But accommodation is not cheap by Australian standards in the red centre. The rates are for very basic dormitory accommodation. In the $29-$37 per person rates, share twin, you can usually get a perfectly acceptable motel room for two in Australian country locations. Sure it might appear cheap by British accommodation prices, which for hotels I would consider extortionate. Particularly for some of the worn out dumps in London masquerading as hotels.
