When I sailed on Celebrity Galaxy a few years ago, there was a problem
with noise either above or below my cabin (never could figure out where)
with what seemed to be large doors opening or closing at late/early
hours (the theory was that it was food storage areas). There were posts
on Cruise Critic complaining about this, but it was too late to change
our cabin. Celebrity never acknowledged it and the CD refused to let me
ask the captain a question about it during the Q&A session. I did get a
galley tour on that cruise (which I had been requesting but had not been
scheduled), I am not sure if it was related to my not being allowed to
ask the question. I do know that the CD said that someone would contact
me to discuss the problem and no one did.

Back a few years ago everyone on Celebrity was invited on galley tours by
their waiters. The waiters would take a list one of the evenings.

They weren't on this cruise, and as you know it is typically reserved
for those in the non basic tier of Captains Club (they get an invitation
in their cabins). My family did eventually get a private tour with the
executive chef. As I said, it is not clear if it was because I had tried
to complain about our cabin or not.

Was not sure how many years ago you meant by a few years. Now a days those
kind of tours have become perks in the loyalty programs. Years ago there
were multiple ways to get them. The pursers desk, ask the waiter or matre
d, the Captains Club hostess. From your description, a private tour with
the executive chef, that is something special, that is not the usual galley
tour, it sounds like it was in response to your complaints.

Bill,

Did you write a letter to the CEO? That's what I would have done.

The problem with noise is bad, especially on the deck below Lido or pool
deck or the buffet.

Isn't it wierd that this noisy deck is also the most expensive?

Royal Caribbean ships don't have "Lido" deck.

I always check the deck plans to make sure there are only cabins above
and below me. The reason some of those cabins below the public area
upper decks are more expensive is that the majority of cruisers believe
that higher is better. Those of us who cruise a lot know this is not true.

Janet & Peter

Those of us who cruise a lot know that the suites are usually on the
higher decks.

Royal Caribbean and all cruise ships have a pool deck and a buffet
restaurant with cabins and suites below. The problem with late night
and early morning furniture draging is the crew cleaning up.

This problem would be nearly eliminated with two pool boys picking up a
piece of furniture instead of one dragging it.

The other source of noise is the hard wheels on the carts that go back
and forth during the long cleaning hours. Soft inflatable tires would
be far less noisy on the floors and the cabins below.

The most expensive real estate on any ship is the highest passenger
deck, the cruise line should do all possible to protect that valuable
profit center by limiting any noise producing activities during sleep
times by crew or other passengers.

I'm going on my "pinnacle" cruise with Royal Caribbean this week end in
a suite under the whirlpool. If this one is noisy, I won't hesitate to
call security.

Have a wonderful voyage.

I will never understand why these cruise companies build the most
expensive cabins below or above the busiest places on the ship.
