SA vs BA
We're just back to the US from South Africa, using SA Airways for
the first time in several years. Service and food were OK, as good as any airline, I suspect. The better news is the legroom in economy class. Much more than on our usual carrier, BA. which has a 31" pitch in economy. SA Airbus must be about 34". Every seat has its own video screen with numerous movies, TV programs, games, etc. Long trip from JNB to ATL - 19+ hours on the plane. |

We need something similar to the US airlines' policy, a 'normal' bag for our camera bodies and lenses and a smaller briefcase for a laptop. BA has a very restrictive weight limit for carry-on gear in economy class (even though they don't always enforce it evenly) which has kept us from using them and now KLM is moving towards something similar. How about SA? Bill |

This will not be a problem on SA. One woman brought aboard a 5-foot giraffe. A couple of others had full size guitar cases. BA does post a restrictive policy at their ticket counters, but I have not yet seen it enforced here in Phoenix. Yet. |

SA vs BA
Bill,
SAA's official policy is one piece of carry-on luggage, not exceeding 7kg and not more than 115cm total dimension (23cm Wide, 52cm long, 40cm deep) However, in reality many people are allowed to take two (or even three) items into the cabin. I flew from London to Johannesburg with a small backpack and a banjo. I've never had a problem with taking a camera bag and a laptop on board, but you will want to find your seat as soon as possible, and get your items into the overhead locker before the plane fills up. A vulture walks into a plane with a piece of meat under each wing. The Cabin Attendant says "I'm sorry sir, but only one piece of carrion is allowed per person" DRUM ROLL DRUM ROLL DRUM ROLL CYMBAL.
