Did anyone see the huge article in the New York Times today about the
Canadians clubbing and killing thousands of seals?

Mikey, DUDE!:

We are not worthy - best comeback of '04 sir!

Let me get this straight Scott - Cows are ugly, but seals are cute, so we
can ram electrical prods into a cow's brain while slitting it's throat, but
don't the ice puppies?

Were they the ones holed up in a Mosque, or was that those Iraqi
people?

(Yeah, lets worry about the seals.)

LOL!

Actually, the problem isn't so much the death of the seals (assuming the
science backs up the sustainable harvest), it's the inhumane way in which
it's often done. There is continuing documentation of animals being skinned
alive - how difficult is it to actually kill them first?

As the NYT article clearly says, they are not being skinned alive any
more.

As several of the other articles found on Yahoo News clearly state, there is
film evidnece of them being skinned alive. Depends on who's doing the
reporting, I suppose.

The International Fund for Animal Welfare (Ifaw) also says government
guidelines on humane hunting methods are being ignored.

"We filmed and witnessed seals being skinned alive right in front of us,"
Ifaw activist Rebecca Aldworth told Reuters news agency.

You should actually spend time with the sealers before you get your
biased information from the NY Times. Lets face it, the "facts" are
sometimes manipulated. Read on if I have not turned you off with this
"heresy". I still have one of my letters to the news group of that paper
stating their false "facts" on one of their web site stories about
Canadians going to Haiti. A couple of hours the story was pulled from
their web site, but they did not acknowledge my complaint about "their"
false and misleading facts.

When I was in South Viet Nam in 1971, travelling as a civilian, I saw
stuff that never got into North American nor Australian media - and that
stuff was from the soldiers who were on the UN "peacekeeping" tour
between Saigon, Hanoi, and (I think, but it was 33 years ago) Phnom Penh.
