airfares have gone thru the roof
In article .com,

Well, you're insane. $200 is less than the cost of producing the product you want to buy. You might be able to find one of the many bankrupt airlines to sell it to you below cost, but I doubt it. |

Then you'd really have a heart attack when you find out how much of your tax money the government spends on tickets. My recent roundtrip JNU-PHF (SEA & CLT layovers) cost the taxpayers $2100. And it's just as bad for non-government employees who purchase their own tickets for reimbursement by the feds. The Fly America act ensures that a tremendous amount of time and money is wasted on international itineraries. miguel -- Hit The Road! From Kuala Lumpur I can fly to Macau, Bangkok, Manila, Bali, Phnom Penh, etc., for 50 cents. These are all 2-4 hours flights. miguel -- Hit The Road! Can't you if they code-share with a US flag carrier? Yeah, but it's still quite inflexible unless you are just flying from New York to London or something. There are just not that many US code share flights between non-US locations - especially from here (Kuala Lumpur). From one non-US location to another, the escape clause kicks in after 6 hours (i.e., if the non-US carrier saes you at least 6 hours). Coming from Asia and flying to some other point, that almost always seems to mean a five-and-a-half hour detour. On an inferior airline. Often at a fare that's thousands of dollars higher. From the US to a foreign location, it's even worse - only if it will cost you over 24 hours can you escape flying US carriers. miguel -- Hit The Road!
